We expected the Windows 7 release date to get leaked by someone outside of Microsoft, but we never expected it to happen this soon. We just barely found out the Release Candidate 1 would be available for download May 5, so this seems a little early to hear such a firm date.
Acer, a computer manufacturer best known for its laptops and famous Aspire One netbook, confirmed that Windows 7 will be officially available on October 23. We sincerely doubt they would make such an exact claim unless they were sure, mainly because they are making a special offer for anyone who buys one of their computers 30 days before the release. Acer says that any of their computers bought during that 30-day window will be eligible for a free upgrade when Windows 7 goes live on the 23rd. Acer also boasts that Windows 7 will be pre-installed on their Z5600 PC on that date.
There has been no reaction from Microsoft yet, so this remains officially unofficial, but it sounds plausible. And we’re certainly not sad about getting Windows 7 sooner. The only question left is, are computer buyers now going to put off buying if they have a hard Windows 7 delivery date to wait for?
