Rumors have been buzzing about a PSP 2 for months now. Will it have an optical drive? Will it interface with the Playstation 3? Will it have a keyboard? A joystick? Will the PSP2 raise the dying from their beds of affliction? Will it transform black lumps of coal into glistening gold nuggets? Will it provide man with the elusive elixir of life? The answer to all these questions is “yes.” Details and release info after this here jump:
1up’s moles at Sony just revealed that the firm is preparing their next gen PSP “2,” called the PSP Go!, for release at E3 this Summer. And yes, the exclamation point is part of the lil‘ handheld’s name.
According to 1up’s spies, Sony has scrapped the UMD optical drive you remember from the first PSP for the PSP Go! Instead, the PSP Go! will have 8 or 16GB of on-board flash memory. Much like many smartphones out there, the PSP Go!’s button interface will slide out from under the screen.
FPS fans will be a bit saddened to learn that Sony is not including a second analog stick on the PSP Go! Frankly though, a joystick isn’t nearly as important to most of us as some touchscreen action and a camera would be. Any comments on the cam and touchscreen would still qualify as pure speculation so we’ll just sit tight until more double agents leak images and info.
I can’t tell if I’m actually excited for this thing or if it’s just the PSP Go!’s exclamation point starting to mess with my head! Either way, can’t wait to get my grubby hands on the PSP Go! later this year!! In addition to popping up at E3 in June, the PSP Go! is slated for North American release sometime this fall!!!!
EEAAHHRR!! Help me! Must stop using (!). Why can’t I stop?!? Maybe the (!) is the new lowercase (i)? It certainly seems to be contagious!
